A 19-year-old illegal miner was sentenced to three months of hard labor by the Tarkwa District Court One for stealing items valued at GH¢802.
Enock Buamah, alias Akwesi, pleaded guilty to unlawful entry, causing damage, and stealing.
Prosecutor Inspector Patrick Essien informed the court, led by Mr. Charles Owusu Nsiah, that the complainant, James Arthur, is a farmer living in Kofi-Gyan, a community within the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality.
A few months ago, the complainant left for the farm. Upon his return, he realized his door had been forced open, and GH¢4,500 had been stolen.
On December 11, 2024, the prosecution reported that the complainant returned from the farm to find the wire mesh on his back window damaged again. Missing items included two MP3 players, a pen drive, a memory card, two pairs of sandals, and six cakes of soap, totaling GH¢802.
Inspector Essien reported that the complainant received information indicating that the Kofi-Gyan Unit Committee Taskforce had apprehended Buamah for a similar offense. The complainant then confronted Buamah about the stolen items.
Buamah admitted to the crime and guided the task force and the complainant to his residence. There, they retrieved some of the stolen items and turned him over to officers at the Aboso police post, where a theft complaint was filed against him.
