Taiwanese Duo Denies Firearms Trafficking Charges in Malaysia

Two Taiwanese nationals, Cheng Ming Hung, 26, and Hsueh Chun Ta, 33, have pleaded not guilty to multiple charges related to firearms trafficking and possession of ammunition, as reported by Malay Mail.

The duo was accused of illegally trafficking 14 pistols and a submachine gun without a valid permit at a house in Desa Park City, Sentul, on January 16. Under Section 7(2) of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, the charge carries a potential prison sentence of 30 to 40 years and six strokes of the cane if convicted.

Additionally, they faced charges under the Arms Act 1960 for possessing an imitation ‘five-seven MK2P’ gun and two empty magazines without a valid reason. If found guilty, they could face up to one year in jail and a fine of RM5,000.

The third charge involved the illegal possession of 14 pistols, a submachine gun, and 900 rounds of ammunition, which could result in a 14-year prison sentence and six strokes of the cane under Section 8(a) of the Firearms Act 1971.

Judge Siti Shakirah Mohtarudin denied bail, citing the severity of the charges, and set March 12 for the next court hearing.
