2 siblings die after being locked in water drum by 6-year-old sister

In a tragic incident in Takoradi, two siblings, aged 12 and 8, lost their lives after being accidentally locked inside a water drum by their six-year-old sister while playing.

The heartbreaking incident occurred on January 9, 2025, and was reported to the police at approximately 6:45 PM.

Sources reported that the mother of the three children received a distress call from her grandmother around 3 PM that afternoon. She was informed that the children had been discovered unconscious in a water-filled drum in the family’s kitchen.

The siblings were swiftly taken to the Takoradi Government Hospital in an urgent attempt to save their lives but were unfortunately pronounced dead on arrival. Their bodies have been placed in the hospital’s morgue for preservation and further investigation.

Initial investigations by the police suggest that the children were playing in their room before moving to the kitchen, where they climbed into the drum.

They reportedly asked their younger sister to close the lid, but she was unable to reopen it when they became trapped, resulting in the tragic incident.

The police have commenced investigations to determine the full circumstances surrounding the deaths.
