With the reopening of basic schools on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) has instructed all current caterers to resume serving nutritious meals to students nationwide.

The directive seeks to guarantee that students across all 16 regions of Ghana consistently receive a daily hot and nutritious meal through the School Feeding Programme.

In a press release, the National Coordinator of the GSFP emphasized their dedication, in partnership with the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP), to effectively implement this initiative.

The School Feeding Programme, benefiting more than four million children in public basic schools across the nation, continues to be a cornerstone of the national strategy to enhance education and boost child nutrition.

The GSFP highlighted that the recently announced caterer procurement process will soon be implemented under the current administration. This initiative, developed in collaboration with key stakeholders, aims to improve the program’s efficiency and transparency.

Meanwhile, the GSFP has called on community leaders and stakeholders to assist caterers in carrying out their responsibilities smoothly.

“We strongly appeal to all stakeholders and opinion leaders within beneficiary communities to ensure that all caterers can execute their mandate of serving one hot nutritious meal to beneficiary pupils without any hindrances,” the statement read.

The GSFP has announced that full payment for the Third Term of the 2023/2024 academic year is complete. Furthermore, they have settled arrears for 40 out of 71 cooking days for the First Term of the 2024/2025 academic year.

The GSFP assured caterers that the outstanding 31 days of arrears for the First Term of 2024/2025 would be cleared shortly, emphasizing the government’s dedication to maintaining the seamless functioning of the program.
