President Mahama Pledges to Upgrade Free SHS for Ghanaians

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his dedication to advancing the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) program, promising to tackle its challenges and enhance educational outcomes.

During his ‘Thank You Tour’ in the Central Region on Thursday, February 6, 2025, Mr. Mahama emphasized the importance of education as a top priority. He detailed plans to enhance the Free SHS policy by securing dedicated funding and decentralizing food procurement to improve management efficiency.

“Education will remain a priority, and we will work to provide our children the best possible learning environment at all levels.
And ensure our youth have the skills to compete in the global economy. We plan to improve the Free SHS program to secure dedicated funding and decentralized food procurement.”

President Mahama also unveiled plans to implement a “no academic fees” policy to support continuing students financially. Furthermore, he committed to expanding infrastructure in tertiary institutions to cater to the growing student population.
