MP Calls for Inclusion of Underprivileged Medical Students in Free Education Program

Professor Titus Kofi Beyuo, the Member of Parliament for the Lambussie constituency, has advocated including underprivileged medical students in the government’s free tertiary education program.

He believes the policy will significantly aid talented students who lack the financial means to cover their fees.

Speaking on Joy Prime’s Morning Show, he shared his own experience, stating that he wouldn’t have achieved his medical dreams without partial tuition support.

“It’s true that there are people who are less privileged who will need help and support. There are other avenues through which those people can be helped. There’s room to discuss adding that category of people to this free tertiary education. It is justified for us to make that call; I will. I’ll ask them to look if they could include people from underprivileged homes especially.”

“I couldn’t have been a doctor if asked to pay full fees. I had to push the truck to pay my fees, sell water, and do everything. There’s no way I could pay a full fee today if I were offered that, and there are people like me in different parts of this country who also need to develop their full potential. So, there’s room to consider them,” he said.

He urges President John Mahama and Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu to consider admitting at least half of the students in the category.
