Minority Caucus Slams Attorney General’s Decision to Drop Charges Against NDC Officials

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has strongly criticized the Attorney General’s decision to withdraw charges against certain National Democratic Congress (NDC) officials, calling it a move that raises serious concerns about fairness and transparency in the justice system.

Speaking to the media in Parliament on Tuesday, February 11, Suame MP John Darko called the move an “unparalleled” act of political favoritism.

Mr. Darko emphasized that halting these cases sparks significant worries regarding accountability and selective justice. He noted that during the New Patriotic Party’s administration from 2017 to 2025, no Attorney General appointed by President Akufo-Addo withdrew criminal cases involving prominent NPP members.

The Attorney General recently announced the withdrawal of legal proceedings against key NDC figures, which has sparked heated debate among political stakeholders. The Minority Caucus argues that this move reflects selective justice and undermines the principles of accountability.

In a statement, the Caucus questioned the legal and ethical grounds for the withdrawal, suggesting that such decisions set a dangerous precedent. They urged the Attorney General’s office to ensure that all legal matters are handled without political bias, emphasizing that party affiliations must not influence justice.

This development has fueled discussions across the political spectrum, with analysts weighing in on the implications for Ghana’s legal and political landscape. The Minority Caucus has vowed to take further steps to seek accountability and transparency regarding the Attorney General’s actions.
