Sudan’s head coach, James Kwesi Appiah, aims to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
The coach from Ghana helped Sudan qualify despite tough challenges, as the team had to play all their home games away because of the ongoing civil war.
Despite facing challenges, Sudan showed resilience and determination. They secured a spot in the tournament by narrowly beating Ghana, earning four points in their qualifying matches.
“Winning the trophy is my goal,” Appiah said in an interview with Akoma FM. “By God’s grace, we have qualified. We will prepare thoroughly to ensure we have a strong team before the AFCON. Once you’re in, you aim for the cup rather than coming out with nothing.”
Mr. Appiah emphasized the unpredictable nature of football, pointing to Ivory Coast’s victory in the 2023 AFCON as proof of the sport’s surprises.
“Nothing is impossible in football. No team should be underestimated,” he stated.
Qualified teams include Morocco (hosts), Algeria, Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Comoros, DR Congo, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Mali, Senegal, South Africa, Sudan, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
