The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has officially welcomed Edward Abambire Bawa as its new Chief Executive Officer, marking the beginning of a new leadership chapter for the Corporation.
He takes over from Joseph Dadzie, who served as CEO until January 16, 2025.
In a statement, GNPC conveyed its confidence in Mr. Bawa’s leadership, highlighting his extensive experience and strategic vision for the Corporation.
“Mr Bawa brings over two decades of experience in energy policy, management, and public service to the role,” the statement highlighted.
With a remarkable blend of academic achievements and professional expertise, Mr. Bawa stands out as a distinguished leader. He is currently advancing his knowledge by pursuing a PhD in Global Energy Policy at EUCLID University. His educational foundation includes a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Cape Coast and an MBA in Finance from the University of Liverpool.
His previous positions, such as representing the Bongo Constituency as a Member of Parliament from 2017 to 2025, have highlighted his significant influence in crafting energy legislation and policy, as noted by GNPC.
Before his appointment, Bawa served on the Parliamentary Committees on Mines and Energy as well as Communications, where he played a crucial role in advancing Ghana’s energy reforms.
GNPC recognized Bawa’s extensive technical expertise, emphasizing his certifications in petroleum revenue management, upstream agreements, and energy commercialization.
“His leadership extends beyond government, with technical and advisory roles on various energy committees and task forces,” the Corporation added.
GNPC revealed that Mr. Bawa is committed to boosting operational efficiency, encouraging innovation, and advancing sustainability, with the goal of positioning GNPC as a leader in Ghana’s energy sector.
