Accra, April 15, 2025 — Ghana is on the verge of securing a landmark $1 billion investment aimed at revolutionizing the country’s digital infrastructure and positioning it as a leader in technological innovation across Africa.
The announcement was made by the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, during an interview on Channel One TV on Monday, April 14.
According to the Minister, the agreement—currently in its final stages—involves a foreign partner investing nearly $1 billion into Ghana’s IT infrastructure. The deal is expected to be officially signed in the coming weeks.
“This collaboration will bring about the needed transformation and generate employment,” Mr. George stated. “In the next few weeks, you will be hearing of us signing a landmark agreement with a country that is going to be investing close to a billion dollars in Ghana’s IT infrastructure.”
The Minister emphasized that the investment will not only enhance the country’s digital systems but also lead to significant job creation across various sectors. The initiative is part of the government’s broader digital transformation agenda aimed at building a future-ready economy.
A key component of this vision, Mr. George noted, is the development of a digitally skilled workforce, particularly in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence (AI). He pointed to government-backed initiatives like the One Million Coders Programme, which equips young Ghanaians with the technical skills needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital world.
“These efforts are part of a long-term strategy to establish Ghana as a hub for digital talent and innovation on the African continent,” he said.
The forthcoming deal marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s journey toward becoming a digitally empowered nation and reaffirms the government’s commitment to leveraging technology for inclusive economic growth.
