Al Qadsiah move not about money but development – Jerry Afriyie

Jerry Afriyie has opened up on his move to Saudi Arabian club Al Qadsiah, a decision he insists is not motivated by financial gain

Jerry Afriyie has shared insights on his transfer to Saudi Arabian club Al Qadsiah, a choice he asserts is driven by factors beyond financial gain. Despite expectations for the 18-year-old prodigy to join a top European league following his remarkable breakout season, he has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with a team typically linked to players in the later stages of their careers.

Afriyie expressed his belief in the project at Al Qadsiah, stating, “I see this project similar to what brought me out. I’m focused on my development and the timing.”

To foster his development, Al Qadsiah has loaned Afriyie to CD Lugo, a team in Spain’s lower division, for the rest of the season. This strategic decision underscores the club’s dedication to nurturing young talent and equipping them with the experience needed to excel. “It is in God’s hands, and I’m ready to do my part,” Afriyie commented following the transfer.

Afriyie’s remarkable performances have propelled him to prominence with the Ghana U20 team during the 2023 WAFU Zone B Tournament in Togo. His exceptional talent secured him a debut call-up to the Black Stars for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Niger. He made a notable impact by scoring a goal, even though Ghana faced a 1-2 loss. This senior national-level exposure is anticipated to advance his player growth significantly.
