An Accra Circuit Court has convicted a 36-year-old job seeker of stealing a mobile phone from a Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) office.
Foster Nyarko reportedly entered the office of a CHRAJ principal administrator and took her Samsung Galaxy A54 5G mobile phone, valued at GH¢4,999.
Nyarko was apprehended on January 30, 2025, at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, Ridge, for a related offense.
A CCTV camera reportedly captured Nyarko engaging in his illicit activities. Facing charges of unlawful entry and theft, Nyarko admitted his guilt.
The court, led by Basilia Adjei-Tawiah, convicted Nyarko based on his plea but postponed sentencing until February 27, 2025.
The prosecution, headed by Chief Inspector Daniel Ofori Appiah, stated that the complainant, Celis-Jane Nyadroh, was the Principal Administrator at the CHRAJ headquarters in Accra.
Chief Inspector Appiah reported that Nyarko, a resident of Effiakuma in Takoradi, Western Region, is currently unemployed.
On October 23, 2024, Nyarko approached the front desk managers at CHRAJ to inquire about the status of his application with the Human Resources Department.
The prosecution said Nyarko entered the complainant’s office on the first floor, Room 15, but was met by her absence.
Nyarko successfully fled the scene, taking the complainant’s mobile phone.
The complainant and her witnesses submitted CCTV footage to the Ministry of Police, showing Nyarko committing the act.
