Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister-Designate of State for Communication and presidential spokesperson, has announced that the government plans to restructure key media agencies within the Ministry of Information to boost efficiency and competitiveness.
The impacted organizations comprise the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), and the Information Services Department (ISD).
During his vetting by the Appointments Committee, Felix Kwakye Ofosu announced the government’s initiative to merge the Ghana News Agency (GNA) with the Information Services Department (ISD). This move aims to modernize their operations and enhance service delivery.
He stated that the president plans to merge the Ghana News Agency with the Information Services Department, rebranding them to fit the digital age. He noted that while issuing a press release once involved lengthy procedures, a single social media post can now instantly reach millions.
“We must adapt to these changes to remain effective,” he stated.
He also mentioned that the Ghana Publishing Company, currently outpaced by private competitors, will undergo substantial reforms to boost its competitiveness and revenue-generating capacity.
The Minister also emphasized the financial restructuring of both the GBC and the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL).
He mentioned that despite both institutions functioning under the National Media Commission (NMC), their budgets are still managed by the Ministry of Information. The restructuring seeks to enhance budgetary efficiency and secure financial sustainability.
This initiative aligns with the government’s comprehensive media reform agenda, aiming to modernize state-owned media outlets, boost their credibility, and ensure they stay adaptable to the rapidly evolving media environment.
