Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the nominee for Foreign Affairs Minister, has revealed that 156 Ghanaians are at risk of deportation from the United States.
This recent development follows U.S. President Donald Trump’s newly issued executive order, which specifically addresses the issue of birthright citizenship.
Mr. Ablakwa revealed this on Friday while delivering his presentation to the Parliament’s Appointments Committee.
The executive order targets the automatic granting of citizenship to individuals born on U.S. soil, known as birthright citizenship.
Mr. Ablakwa emphasized that, if approved, he would ensure the government remained committed to supporting those affected.
He mentioned that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will actively collaborate with U.S. authorities to ensure the process respects the rights and dignity of all individuals involved.
