Emergency Evacuation of 176 Passengers Following Fire on Air Busan Flight to South Korea.
The rear section of a passenger aircraft caught fire at an airport in South Korea on Tuesday, forcing the evacuation of 176 people on board, authorities said.
The Air Busan plane, an Airbus A321, was set to fly to Hong Kong from Gimhae International Airport in southeastern Busan but caught fire at around 10:15 pm local time (1315 GMT), the transport ministry said in a statement.
It said 169 passengers, seven flight attendants, and staff were evacuated down inflatable slides.
The National Fire Agency reported that three individuals sustained minor injuries during the evacuation. The fire was fully extinguished by 11:31 pm local time.
Last month, South Korea experienced its most devastating aviation tragedy when a Jeju Air plane crash-landed and exploded at an airport in the southwestern Muan County after departing from Thailand. Tragically, 179 out of 181 passengers and crew lost their lives in the incident.
