Shocking Incident: Man Remanded for Biting Off Ex-Girlfriend’s Upper Lip

Two soldiers jailed 10 years each for robbery and kidnapping

The Bibiani District Court has ordered a mason to be held in police custody for allegedly biting off his ex-girlfriend’s upper lip in Atronsu, located in the Western North Region of Ghana.

Loris Afful, who is also known by the name Kofi Atta, is 48 years old and recently decided to pay a visit to his former girlfriend’s room with the intention of trying to reconcile and mend their past relationship. Unfortunately, his efforts did not go as planned, as she was not open to his attempts at reconciliation. She quickly made it clear that she was not interested in engaging with him and firmly asked him to leave her space.

This led to an altercation during which Afful bit his girlfriend’s upper lip. He faced charges of causing harm and pleaded not guilty in court under the jurisdiction of Mr. Lord Delvin Essandoh.

Shortly after remanding Afful into lawful custody, the court instructed Chief Inspector B. O. Agyemang, representing Chief Inspector Fred Amoa, to submit their disclosures within five days.

The case was then adjourned to January 22, 2025, for a Case Management Conference.

Giving reasons for remanding Afful, the court held that it considered the facts of the case, the safety of the victim, and the possibility of interference in the investigations.

It also assured that the matter would be speedily tried.

The prosecution presents that Lucy Opoku, the complainant, is a 47-year-old laborer. Both Lucy and Afful reside in Sefwi Atronsu, near Awaso.

The court was informed that the complainant and the accused were in a relationship for two years.

The prosecution stated that in October 2024, the relationship between the accused and the complainant ended, prompting the complainant to travel to Accra. She returned on December 29, 2024.

The prosecutor explained that upon learning of the complainant’s return, Afful attempted to rekindle their relationship, but the complainant consistently ignored his advances.

Chief Inspector Amoa reported that on January 8, 2025, around 9:00 pm, the complainant came back from town to find her door open and, to her astonishment, discovered Afful asleep in her room.

Chief Inspector Amoa noted that the complainant did not ask Afful how he entered because he was aware of where she hid her key.

The prosecution stated that the complainant asked Afful to leave her room, but he refused.

“Complainant tried to pull him out of the room, resulting in a fight between them. The complainant suddenly felt a burning sensation on her upper lips and noticed blood oozing from it.” Prosecution said.

The prosecution stated that the complainant discovered Afful had bitten off her upper lip.

The court was told that after the act, Afful left for his house.
