The Hasaacas Ladies, Ghana’s reigning champions, missed out on a spot in the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League despite a dominant 6-1 victory over Niger’s AS Garde National on Saturday.
In their final Group B match, Hasaacas surged ahead with goals from Fatoumata Tamboura, Grace Animah, and Comfort Owusu, leading 3-0. AS Garde managed a goal before halftime, but Comfort Owusu scored again after the break to restore the three-goal lead.
Despite a flurry of chances and late goals from Animah and Abigail Sakyiwaa, the 6-1 victory wasn’t enough. Hasaacas needed a six-goal margin to surpass Omnisports Etincelle, who also ended with four points but advanced due to a better goal difference. Omnisports’ 1-0 loss to Nigeria’s Edo Queens did not shift the standings.
The Takoradi-based team will now redirect their attention to domestic competitions after a close miss at a Champions League comeback.
