National Service Delay Hits 5,300 Trained Teachers

Over 5,300 Trained Teachers Face National Service Delays Due to Expired Accreditation

More than 5,300 trained teachers from various Colleges of Education have hit a roadblock in their National Service registration—because their schools’ accreditation has expired.

A statement released on February 14, 2025, by Felix Gyamfi, Director-General of the National Service Authority (NSA), revealed that out of 9,082 teachers uploaded into the system for the 2025/2026 service year, 5,336 come from institutions with expired accreditation.

What This Means for Affected Teachers

Until their institutions resolve the issue with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), these teachers cannot proceed with their registration—leaving their future uncertain.

The NSA further disclosed that:
Only 14 out of 36 Colleges of Education have active accreditation.
22 institutions have expired accreditation.
7,077 more teachers are still waiting to be processed because their schools haven’t submitted the necessary cover letters.

This accreditation issue could cause major delays for thousands of aspiring teachers. Now, all eyes are on GTEC and the affected colleges to take urgent action.
